Cocktail Gala a Smashing Success!
The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando’s Build South Cocktail Gala, chaired by Aileen Schaked on April 2, was a smashing success, with over 40 new gifts of $1,000 or more to the Capital Campaign. Close to $100,000 in new pledges was raised, in addition to funds generated by the live and silent auction items provided by Wade West from American Fundraising Auctions. South Campus Plans Moving Forward
After a year of working in close partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, plans are in place to move forward on the long-awaited Southwest Orlando Jewish Community Campus. The Federation’s Board of Directors recently approved allocating substantial funding for necessary infrastructure to bring the Campus to a stage where building permits can be issued. In a unanimous vote last month, the JCC Board also voted to move forward, indicating it favors a ground breaking "as soon as possible." At that time, the JCC will launch a drive for 300 charter memberships to sustain the new Campus’ operations. more...

Recap For six years, I have strongly urged the JCC and Jewish Federation to proceed with construction of a much-needed South Campus. With the help of many of you, led by Val Denner, two years ago we raised an additional $1 million in pledges and gifts, bringing our gift total to $4.2 million. We increased the number of donor families from mere dozens to around 200. Our gifts, however, have not kept pace with rising construction costs in the wake of Hurricanes Charlie, Francis, etc. In the Fall of 2004 and Spring of 2005, the South leadership shared its concern about construction costs and urged the Federation and J to proceed with an expeditious ground-breaking, based on whatever we could afford. more...
